My work explores myths of the American empire. I’m interested in the darkness behind historical American narratives, from the role Manifest Destiny played in westward expansion to stories of cannibalism and murder aboard whaling vessels. My paintings search for an uncomfortable balance between absurdist humor and recontextualized history.
